Description
As a part of the relaunch of BBC.com, the platform received a broader visual refresh to feel sharper, more modern, and more dynamic for global audiences. A key part of that work was reimagining the editorial newsletters, a portfolio of long-established products reaching millions of readers each month. Each newsletter had its own loyal audience and subject focus, but the overall suite needed to feel more cohesive within the new BBC.com experience. The approach was to give each newsletter a clear personality without over-branding it. Rather than relying on heavy graphic systems, each identity was built around a single strong focal point that could function like an instantly recognizable icon. This allowed every newsletter to feel distinct while still belonging to one family.
Overview & Role
Ankita led design for the newsletter key art refresh under the guidance of senior creative leadership. She was responsible for shaping the identities of five newsletter brands across news, sport, health, business, and culture. Her role covered concept development, art direction, commissioning external creatives, and adapting final assets for on-site promotion across BBC.com homepage modules and article placements. Ankita began each project with competitor audits and visual research to understand the editorial landscape and identify opportunities for differentiation. She developed multiple creative routes, built moodboards, and sourced illustrators and designers whose styles suited each subject area. Across the suite, vibrant colour palettes, varied illustration styles, and clean compositions created range without losing consistency. The final assets were designed to perform across scale, remaining legible and recognisable in everything from small homepage thumbnails to wide and vertical digital banners. The result was a refreshed newsletter portfolio that felt current, useful, and unified within the wider BBC.com brand system.
